About solar concentrator Fresnel lenses and Fresnel lenses for sensors
Solar concentrator Fresnel lenses were originally developed for concentrating photovoltaic (CPV) application. The solar concentrator Fresnel lenses are designed with the plano side to face the sun (parallel light source), and the Fresnel surface to face photovoltaic cells (focus). These lenses are also used as a solar energy concentrator for solar furnaces.
This configuration is designed to collect parallel light onto a spot, shorter focal length fresnel lenses can be used for detection purposes in combination with sensors and/or detectors.
Our standard Fresnel lenses can also be used for the same purposes but with the opposite facing design. Namely, its plano side faces the focus and the Fresnel surface faces the parallel light source.

For Fresnel lenses, we carry two ‘types,’ “A” and “B”.
The following explains the difference between ‘A’ and ‘B’ type lenses:
– Fresnel (‘A’ type):
The diffused light from the point light source existing at the focal length position is incident on the lens plane and emits parallel light from the Fresnel side.
– Solar concentrator Fresnel (‘B’ type):
Collimated light is incident from the lens plane side and is converged to the focal point on the Fresnel side.
